Seattle Times Reviews AT&T’s UTMS Service

The Seattle Times: Business & Technology: Third-generation mobile wireless network comes calling

The Seattle Times has got a first hand review of AT&T’s new 3G wireless data service, UTMS. While it offers speeds up to 300 Kbps (comparable to a slow DSL connection, but much faster than GPRS), the service is expensive ($80/month for use with the PC Card modem) and the Times reporter had coverage issues at various places around town, where you’d expect there to be a strong signal.

Right now, UTMS is only available in Seattle, Phoenix, San Francisco, and Detroit. But if you’re in one of those cities, have $80/month to spare, and need the fastest cellular wireless connection out there, then UTMS might be for you.
