TinyPodcast 2005-05-27

Here’s last week’s show. Sorry it took me so long to post it, but I was out of town for the weekend, then sick as a dog all this week. I suck. Please forgive me.

You can download the MP3 file directly (right-click, save as), or subscribe to the TinyPodcast RSS feed in your favorite podcast aggregator to get the show delivered automatically to your computer and MP3 player. This week’s show is about 20 MB, 40 minutes, as usual.

Come geek out with Brian and me about various geeky topics, including:

  • How to Get in Trouble At Home and At Work with loud R2D2 ringtones/email notification sounds on your device, and how the “Automatic” profile switching on a Windows Mobile Smartphone can help you keep your domestic harmony and your job!
  • Brief look at Skype for the Windows Mobile Smartphone. Presence and chat only – no voice (yet), but it works well. Needs to use less memory and start faster, but hey, this is pre-beta.
  • Comparison of 3rd party IM clients for mobile devices – Agile, Verichat, IM+, etc.
  • We gave the Office Communicator 2005 eval version (next generation Windows Messenger for the enterprise). Great features, and a lot of promise, but way too much of a CPU and RAM hog for me (I uninstalled and went back to Windows Messenger for our internal Exchange messaging, but Brian is giving it more of a chance).
  • I’m having stability problems with the latest Firefox update, 1.0.4. I’ve done a clean install of Firefox, and so far it has improved, but frustrating nonetheless.
  • We drool over the Samsung i730 EVDO/WiFi/Bluetooth Pocket PC Phone Edition. Please, please, please, Verizon, don’t mess this one up! Get it out soon, without crippling its features, and get more EVDO coverage, and this gadget geek will switch from T-Mobile and slow GPRS.
  • Brian’s hands-on impressions of the Palm(One?) LifeDrive Mobile Manager. Verdict: light, nice screen, not slow unless you’re picky (like me). If only it had a decent quality still/video camera, it would be the perfect mobile blogging/podcasting/videoblogging device!
  • I want a Nintendo DS – partially as a geek, partially as a gamer, but mostly as a collector. I can’t resist the lure of such top-notch and innovative games as Mario 64 DS, Elektroplankton, Nintendogs, etc.
  • I also want a Creative Zen Micro, like the one Brian has and reviewed.
  • And last, but not least, I’ve caught the Mac bug. I’ve got my eye on a 12″ Powerbook…

As always, we love to get feedback! You can email us at tinyscreenfuls@gmail.com or call our voice feedback line and leave us a message – 206-339-TINY. Let us know how we’re doing – good or bad.

Thanks for listening, and stay subscribed!

  1. Guys,

Firefox responsiveness has fallen through the floor lately. I’ve not gone back to the dark side for regular browsing, though.

I did dl a new extension called ieview, that does let me right click and open a link in ie rather than resurfing or copying a link to ie from Firefox.

Thanks for posting your R2 .wavs.
