Sierra Wireless Voq Review

A friend of mine recently jumped on the woot.com deal for an unlocked Sierra Wireless Voq Professional Windows Mobile Smartphone for around $150, and shared some thoughts. He’s an Audiovox SMT5600 user, and had a Motorola MPX200 before that. Here’s what he thinks of the Voq:

I got my Voq phone last night. It is larger than most current phones, but it still fits in my shirt pocket with no problem. The screen is about the same size and quality as the SMT 5600. Voice quality seems fine, although I’m not sure reception is as good as the SMT5600. I got a “Roaming” message on the way to work, but I do not have a “Roaming” message in the office. The keyboard works well. I can live with many other things if it gives me a QWERTY keyboard. A couple of other negatives: it uses a proprietary USB cable and it does not charge when connected to the USB cable like the SMT5600 does. That means I’ll need to get another charger, since it did not come with a car charger.

Anyone else have one of these? What do you think? The flip out QWERTY keyboard was the main feature distinguishing it from other first-gen Windows Mobile Smartphones, and my friend seems pleased with it so far.

I had purchased a new Voqphone A-10. But after 2 months it automatically got stuck. Now it opens and gets stuck. I cannot use this mobile. Anyone knows to repair this problem?

    Hi there

I have some familiarity with this device. Are you saying that the keypad itself is getting stuck in the partially open position? Or is it a software problem that is causing the application to hang?

You might try contacting Sierra Wireless through their support telephone number. I believe that they have some inventory of the product left at their facilities in Richmond, BC, Canada. Although I doubt they will pay for shipping, you might be able to convince them to send you a replacement unit out of good will.

I have the same problem with my Voq A10.
It giving the same message: “Low memory in phone, please delete old or unused programs”.
The only thing, that I can do, is a Factory Reset, which has NO EFFECT. Also I noticed that earlier Factory Reset was taking up to 5 minutes, but now it takes more than 40 minutes.
In some forums there are suggestions to install or upgrade some features, but how to do that, if it is impossible to connect to the PC.

  5. I have the same problem with the Sierra Voq A10 model. It just starts up and hang. I cant do anything with that and also its a new one which I bought before 20 days in rediff shopping. What can I do with this one? anyone please give me a suggestion for this problem. Also if anyone has the technical support number for Sierra Voq then please mention me. Bye4now Thanks!

Try Sierra Wireless technical support at 1-877-231-1144 (North America) or call their direct line from overseas (+1-604-231-1100) and ask for customer support between 8am and 5pm Pacific time) Sierra’s customer support people are pretty good I’ve found. If you explain that you’ve followed the instructions on the knowledge base for a factory reset, and it has had no effect, they may be willing to help you try and troubleshoot.

If a factory reset does not correct the problem, I am afraid that I don’t know of a solution. Please follow the instructions very carefully to perform a factory reset again

If it fails there might be some tools out there to install a fresh build. I will check.

    Apologies.

Thank you Hato, Reset worked for me, my VOQ used to get stuck and froze in the opening screen, and when I reset after reading your solution, it worked, now its fne….

Most of the software related problems in VOQ get fixed by master reset but you will loose all your contacts and other stuff. I thing you might want to invest in a backup software e.g sprite back up . Take regular backups of your settings on your sd card or pc . When ever you start getting “low memory in phone plz delete old or unused programs “……….and phone not getting unlocked” do a master rest and the restore it to the last save settings .
