A friend of mine recently jumped on the woot.com deal for an unlocked Sierra Wireless Voq Professional Windows Mobile Smartphone for around $150, and shared some thoughts. He’s an Audiovox SMT5600 user, and had a Motorola MPX200 before that. Here’s what he thinks of the Voq:
I got my Voq phone last night. It is larger than most current phones, but it still fits in my shirt pocket with no problem. The screen is about the same size and quality as the SMT 5600. Voice quality seems fine, although I’m not sure reception is as good as the SMT5600. I got a “Roaming” message on the way to work, but I do not have a “Roaming” message in the office. The keyboard works well. I can live with many other things if it gives me a QWERTY keyboard. A couple of other negatives: it uses a proprietary USB cable and it does not charge when connected to the USB cable like the SMT5600 does. That means I’ll need to get another charger, since it did not come with a car charger.
Anyone else have one of these? What do you think? The flip out QWERTY keyboard was the main feature distinguishing it from other first-gen Windows Mobile Smartphones, and my friend seems pleased with it so far.
