I think I want the Netgear Skype Wifi Phone

I think this is the first WiFi Skype-enabled phone device I’ve ever seen that doesn’t look like, well, total crap:

No info on when it will be available, beyond Q1 2006, but you can sign up to be notified by email when it’s ready. Depending on the price (say, not more than $99), and how decent the color screen and interface look, I’m practically sold.

  1. Josh, I had this phone in my hands at CES and while it was pre-production, it had a nice feel to it. I couldn’t actually use it so I can’t speak to the call quality or the screen. Although it’s a nice product, it’s not for me. I prefer Skyping with a headset (USB or BT), which I can do with a Windows Mobile device.

  2. Yeah, I have no real practical use for it. In truth, I don’t use Skype for voice hardly at all, though I love to have the option.

But from a gadget lust point of view, I want one. That’s why I hope it’s cheap and not ugly. 🙂
