Intel Meta Reality Projects – cool!

I’ve recently started to dip my toes into the world of Second Life, and there’s been some kind of “big” connection bubbling just under the surface in my brain, WRT how that kind of interaction could apply to collaboration in a business environment.

Intel is researching/working on a project called Miramar (white paper abstract, Orange County Register article, 3pointD blog post) that provides a 3D meeting space, where documents have substance, and you can interact with people in a way similar to how you do it in Second Life, World of Warcraft, or any other 3D massively multiuser environment.

Some very cool stuff, and that connection between the concept and how it could apply to collaboration is still trying to make itself in my brain. It’s going to be cool when it does – I love that feeling! :-) I work with Eleanor Wynn and some of the people working on Miramar, and I can’t wait to see what comes out of the idea!

  1. Check out page 42 of the May issue of Wired. They note that the borough of Queens is using Second Life to let the community collaboratively redesign a park near LaGuardia airport.

In most places, we call these “offices”. :-)
