Video – Bloglines integrates streaming audio player for podcast feeds

Watch the video

I noticed in the last day or so that podcast feeds that I’m subscribed to in Bloglines now have a little Flash streaming player link next to the traditional “enclosure” download link. Click on the play button, and it begins streaming the MP3 file immediately. Very cool for previewing a podcast before you subscribe.

I decided to shoot and post this video to play with blip.tv and my new Canon SD700 camera a little more, so let me know what you think. I know that the focus is messed up on this video, and I’ll try to fix that in the future. All other feedback is welcome! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Hey Josh, I’m Mike from blip.tv and just wanted to check in and see how you were liking blip. Is there anything we can do to make the experience better?

One thing I might recommend: Check out your cross-post settings (http://www.blip.tv/blogs/list/) and click “Edit” on your blog. Check out the Flash Thumbnail Flipper template. I think it may be good since you’re uploading AVIs.

  4. Great responsiveness, Mike! Glad to hear from you.

Thanks for pointing out that Flash template option. I never would have thought to look there for it, and I was getting kind of frustrated at the default of just linking to the video file. How about making “Flash with alternate formats” the default setting for cross posting? I bet that’s what most people would want out of the gate. In fact, I was in the middle of looking at the page source to see how I could hack my post to include the Flash player version. ๐Ÿ™‚

Other features I’d like to see?

Video transcoding to iPod/PSP format. My camera records AVIs, but people iPods and iTunes don’t. Instead of me having to transcode before I upload, it would be great to have that option on the site.

Populate the “enclosure” field with the video URL when cross-posting to a blog that supports it (like WordPress).

I’m really digging blip.tv so far, and I’m going to be using it a lot more. Looks like you’ve got an excited evangelist on your hands. Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚
