Liveblogging the birth of our second child

I’m going to be liveblogging (updating this post) during the birth of our second child, using Dave Winer’s YoMoBlog.

This is just a post to get started. We leave for the hospital soon. Check back often for updates! :-)

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments ans wishes. We appreciate it.

Rachel kind of freaked out when I showed her this, so I had to explain that I wasn’t going to give a minute by minute account. Just lots of updates over the next half day or so. Hope no one had expectations otherwise. ;-)

At the hospital now. We’re doing a scheduled C-Section, which was not what we had wanted, but that’s a long story. It’s kind of weird, knowing ahead of time what’s going to happen when. Takes a lot of the anxiety out of it (but not all – this is a major surgery, after all). We’re so excited!

It’s a boy!

Mama’s fine, and baby’s fine. We’re donewith recovery and in our room now. Such a beautiful little boy! And big, too. 9 pounds 13 ounces. We couldn’t be happier.

I’ll upload some photos tomorrow. For those concerned about Rachel’s reaction to me blogging this, her “freaking out” was more in a roll her eyes kind of way. Of course I’m being sensitive to her, and this is definitely all about our family. But during the downtimes, I just pop over to yomoblog and post a sentence or two. It’s all in perspective. :-)

Um, Josh, I’m going to side with your wife. Take it easy on the blogging until things settle down.

Best of luck to your whole family and congratulations!

  • IntelWife

I side with your wife. Give her privacy. She is having your child. We don’t need the hour by hour details. It is something your should share with your wife not all of us. We understand that it is magical and all that, but…report that your wife and your newborn child are healthy and well after the birth. Be there for her. The internet and your blog will survive without you for a few hours or even a few days if need be.

Get a grip… it’s the birth of you child: put down the stupid blogging tools and focus on what’s really important.

Okay, I just thought I’d clarify a few things. When Josh said he was going to be Liveblogging the birth of our child, I didn’t quite understand what that entailed – hence the rolling of my eyes. He explained that he was just planning on updating our blog, announcing the birth and posting photos, using his PDA, AFTER the birth. Not blogging about every step of the birthing process. Josh is the kind of guy who would not put his geekiness in priority over my needs and the sacred birth of our child. (Although if a geeky couple decided to do that, more power to them) During the birth (via cesarean) and recovery, he was right by my side – helping me relax, fetching ice water, changing tar diapers and cuddling with our new baby. I just can’t wait to hear what Gabriel’s first word will be – I won’t be surprised if it’s “geek” or “blog” or even “rss”! =) And I’m okay with that.

Hey Josh, This is a little late and I’m hoping that you and mom are doing well and congratulations by the way.

I took particular note to your post because you’re one of the few people I’ve noticed that made a reference to a c-section being major surgery. Probalby a small point but I’m in the business of helping women who have c-sections so it’s a big point for me ;-)

Anyway, I hope things are well with both mom and baby and that the c-section has not left a troublesome recovery. Recovery can take a bit longer but with extra care and patience it can go pretty fast.

    Warm Regards, Elizabeth
