The “Hillsburger” Kicked My Butt

The "Hillsburger" Kicked My Butt, originally uploaded by JoshB.

There’s a Dairy Queen in Hillsboro, OR (the corner or Brookwood and TV Hwy) that does things a little differently than other restaurants in the chain. The ice cream menu is the same, but they make their own burgers and fries – bigger and better than the standard frozen stuff.

This is the “Hillsburger”. Two 1/3 pound hamburger patties on an extra large six inch bun. All the fixins. Note the medium drink and my wife’s regular (but still quite large) “Queen” cheeseburger in the background for scale.

Yes, I ate it. Yes, it kicked my butt (in other words, I was regretting it for quite a while afterwards ;-). Worst part was they used Miracle Whip (which I can’t stand) or some other salad dressing instead of mayonnaise. 😛

Had to take this photo to commemorate the occasion.

  1. If you want your diet to go completely off the rails, I recommend going to the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse where you can enjoy a tasty Wilbur burger: nothing like having an enormous cheese burger with bacon and a fried egg on top.

Oh, and if you’re the beer drinking type, you could add a pint of their Terminator stout. “Twice the alcohol and three times the calories of our regular beer.” Yeowsa.

  2. I go to Cornelius Pass Roadhouse all the time – given it’s proximity to Intel’s campuses in Hillsboro, it’s earned the honorary site code “CPR1” or “RH1”. :-) Although, to be honest, I’m not that impressed with their burgers. And I don’t drink, so I’ve never experienced the Terminator stout. Still a very cool place to go, though. Great atmosphere.

One place I keep hearing about is Helvetia Tavern and their gigantic burger – I need to try that one of these days. When I was working on the Hillsburger at DQ, an older gentleman told me that a friend of his got a plaque/award for eating three and and half of the giant burgers at Helvetia Tavern. I’m not going to go for that record, but I would like to try one of those burgers. :-)

Let me know when you want to go for that Helvetia burger, I need a good excuse to leave the cube and visit Helvetia once more before the rains set in.
