  • The Internet is NOT the new TV, for marketing purposes only. It makes possible community building, democracy, and wonderful freedoms. #
  • A company’s mktg dept in complete control over what’s said on the Internet is like putting the ad industry in charge of the WHOLE Internet. #
  • (These are more thoughts from the great discussion at last night’s OEN PubTalk.) #
  • @natetrue The “new TV” lives on the Internet. But so do a lot of other far more important things. TV is only a small, vain, part. #
  • @jmoriarty It’s a good thing developers are just eyeballs attached to wallets which are ripe for hoovering. Makes it easier! 😉 #
  • The activist/freedom fighter/rabblerouser parts of my brain are awake and active this morning, it seems. :-) #
  • @billpearson Thanks! It’s all that Cory Doctorow and Lawrence Lessig I read. Has an effect on me. 😉 #
  • @Jerry_Makare You in the office? Bring your Mac over here to the Genius Bar, and we’ll see what we can do. :-) #
  • Dear LazyTwitter: If one’s Mac OS X color profile is all jacked up, how would one go about resetting it to the default out of the box state? #
  • @eriksr Yeah, we tried Appearance, and no dice. The messed up Mac has the same settings as mine (which is OK). Dinking around in Colorsync.. #
  • I am getting random GTalk chat requests from spammers with weird fish names. Sillytrout. Debriefedcoho. Block block block! :-) #
  • @verso @jrnoded we tried calibration, didn’t help. And it won’t let us edit his messed up values to match mine. :-( Oh well. Thanks! #
  • We can fix the color profile problem (it’s @sourcecode’s Mac) by creating a new user profile, so I just told him to cut losses and do that. #
  • @samgrover What is this “new Flickr home page” you speak of? I’m intrigued by this idea, and wish to subscribe to your newsletter! :-) #
  • @samgrover Oh, there it is! You’re right, the transition animation rocks. Olha, que coisa mais linda, mais cheia de graça… :-) #
  • This is new, no? “Explore your hometown or see the world with http://flickr.com/places#
  • Flickr Places is REALLY cool. Here’s Portland: http://flickr.com/places/United+States/Oregon/Portland #
  • My fave thing about the new Flickr home page? Inline, persistent “Recent Activity” – shows most recent comments on my stuff. Yay! :-) #
  • @billpearson After conducting some experiments, it appears that Google Trends does, sadly, mostly ignore blogs. :-( #
  • Hey, anyone from OEN last night that followed me on Twitter, drop me an @reply so I know who you are, and can follow back. Thanks! :-) #
  • @verso The answer to your spider problem is obvious. You need carnivorous snakes. #
  • @MicahElliott Thanks, followed! :-) #
  • WTF is a “novation”? I hate made up motivational buzzwords… #
  • @blogan The context I saw “novation” in has NOTHING to do with that definition. It doesn’t integrate the dominant synergistic paradigm. #
  • @jmoriarty Thanks. That makes me full MUCH better. 😉 #
  • @mattg @blogan I think I’m going to take a relatively obscure word, like novation, and just repurpose it to mean whatever I want. :-) #
  • @kmlowry Oh, I’ll survive. I intend to play Buzzword Bingo on my iPhone, make snarky comments on Twitter, and generally have a grand time :) #
  • @kmlowry If they block RF, I can always just play Spore on my iPhone all day. :-) #
  • Dinking around with Unetbootin and an Ubuntu EEE 8.04.1 ISO image to make an installer USB stick for the Eee PC 901. #
  • Installing Ubuntu-EEE 8.04.1 on the Eee PC 901. This is pretty slick! #
  • @atmasphere ignore the Genius sidebar. It’s useless. Learn to love the “make a Genius playlist” button instead. It rocks. :-) #
  • @dieselboi you can rotate a movie in Quicktime (might need Pro). Google for more, but I know the book “Digital Video Hacks” shows how. #
  • @atmasphere Well, if you want to discover new music you don’t have, I don’t think anything beats Pandora or last.fm. #
