End of an Era – I Got New Shoes (or: No Mo’ Crocs)

Most of you know that my signature footwear for the last few years has been a pair (several, actually) of orange Crocs. Yes, they’re ugly. I wasn’t making a fashion statement, because I have no fashion. They were comfy, yes, but not everyone knew the real reason I wore them (along with white socks): they were my “RSS Evangelism Shoes”. People would hear that and say “what’s RSS?” and I’d say “I’m glad you asked!” :-)

I’ve always like quirky, distinctive shoes. The white-and-orange of the universal RSS feed icon is just the latest riff on the theme.

But all good things must come to an end.

There have been fervent opponents to my footwear. Cami Kaos even staged a shoe intervention last time I was on Strange Love Live. Cami, and everyone else who hated my Crocs will be thrilled to know that I have new shoes:

Converse All-Stars, in white and orange. Natch.

You see, it was always more about the white-and-orange than it was about wearing plastic foam clogs. The RSS Shoes have evolved. :-)

I still have the Crocs, and I’ll likely wear them from time to time (they’re GREAT to fly in). But I thought at least a few of you would be pleased with my new kicks. And I’m sure you’ll find something new to harrass me about. :-)

The best part is, I can still tell people “look for the guy in the bright orange shoes” to pick me out of a crowd.

I got Snow Leopard. And I think I broke my elbow.

See and download the full gallery on posterous

Stopped by the Apple Store at Pioneer Place downtown, to pick up Snot Leopard, and to check out the festivities. There was a line about 25 deep, but what surprised me was it was the line for people buying Macs, iPhones, and iPods. The Snow Leopard line only had one guy in it, and moved fast.

The highlight of the day came as I was leaving the mall. I saw my train coming, and was hurrying to catch it. I tripped on the stairs and faceplanted, hard. I landed mostly on my left hand/elbow. Pain. I think I was in mild shock on the train (yes, I made it) – almost fainted, felt like I was going to plurk, cold sweat, etc

Nothing was obviously broken, and I could move it ok, but as the day has progressed, it has stiffened up and swolen. I’ve iced it, but I think I’m going to gave to break down and go have it looked at.

All of which means I’m not installing and playing with Snow Leopard yet, and that hurts more than my elbow! :-)

Update: Dr. says elbow’s just a strain, no bony injury. So that’s good. Aleve and ice packs a few times a day for me! :-)
