  • Nice new iPhone 3.1 feature: you can now hold/copy address/phone fields in Maps and Contacts. Perfect for adding new venues in Foursquare! #
  • Does anyone know a way to make Mail.app on the Mac "Expand all Threads" by default? I hate that new threads default to collapsed. #
  • Found out @posterous duplicate post issue is my fault – WordPress is *slow* on my blog, and Posterous retries when it times out. Ergo dupes. #
  • @vincentchu Thanks for your help. I'm on the latest WordPress, but been meaning to switch hosts for ages. It's just a ton of work and time. in reply to vincentchu #
  • Oops. I messed up my blog. Upgraded WP, K2 stopped working. Upgraded K2, hosed my theme customizations. Time to pave and rebuild, i think! #
  • Pretty cool if you're into The Facebook: they have a Mac desktop notifier app now. Pretty slick. http://bit.ly/1vajRS #
  • Installing 10.6.1, 'cause razor's edge is just how I roll. πŸ˜‰ #
  • Oh, come ON, @BNONews. Is this *REALLY* worthy of a Breaking News Alert? πŸ˜‰ http://twitpic.com/h8fq4 #
  • @dbug13 No way! 10.6.1 was about 9.8MB for me, and I've heard others report size around 75MB (see: http://bit.ly/genQc ) in reply to dbug13 #
  • I just unlocked the "Explorer" badge on @foursquare! http://bit.ly/JaHXF #
  • Staying late at work to try and make a dent in the stuff I have to get done before IDF. Thankful for Pandora, keeping the energy flowing. #
  • Weird request – I forgot the exact layout of my blog sidebars after I trashed my theme today. Anyone got a screenshot before today? #
  • @SuperSpiker Good thing I don't run at recess or go to gym class anymore. πŸ˜‰ in reply to SuperSpiker #
  • @xolotl I tried the Wayback Machine, but the latest there is Feb 2008 – not new enough. And my sidebars don't appear at all there… in reply to xolotl #
  • @AboutUs has an image that's recent enough, but too tiny to read. @StevenWalling, how can I get a big version of this? http://bit.ly/F6PWj #
  • DomainTools.com has one that might work. But they want to charge me $15/month for access to more/bigger versions. Feh. #
  • @Durf Perfect! I tried the Google Cache, but it was too new (updated today, after I trashed it). But Google.jp has an older one. Thanks! πŸ™‚ in reply to Durf #
  • Thanks, all, for the help. I've mostly restored my blog sidebars to the way they were. There's some under the covers hacks I'll need to fix. #
  • My brain is fried, and I ought not to be mucking around with the innards of my blog when I'm at work this late. πŸ™‚ #
  • Hmm. iPhone Bluetooth Voice Control in 3.1 DOES work with my Plantronics 510 headset, but not my MOTOROKR S9. Strange. #
  • MobileRSS, an iPhone Google Reader client, is free until tomorrow (then $2.99). It's fast, looks nice. I still prefer the mobile web version #
  • @mike_strock this MobileRSS? $499 is to much for any iPhone app. Don't buy it! πŸ˜‰ http://twitpic.com/ha2ml in reply to mike_strock #

  • Hey, look! iTunes 9! http://bit.ly/abCHe #
  • I won’t be live tweeting the Apple event news. But we are all following Ars, Giz, Engadget, and GDGT on the big screen in JF1. #
  • @ejacqui You’re definitely tearing it up over there. I’ve got all the live blogs open in tabs, and you and @clint and Ars beat them all. πŸ™‚ in reply to ejacqui #
  • Going to try to grab iTunes 9 and iPhone 3.1 when they become available today. Wish me luck! πŸ™‚ So when do we get all those AR apps? #
  • The new iPod nano, with video/pedometer/FM radio/mic is pretty tempting to get for my kids. I gave them an older digicam, they never use it. #
  • iTunes 9 is pretty slick. I like the redesigned App Store and other interface tweaks. #
  • App arranging in iTunes doesn’t work until you have both iTunes 9 and iPhone OS 3.1, apparently. #
  • iPhone syncing appears to be faster in iTunes 9, but I could be mistaken. It feels faster, anyway. #
  • iPhone OS 3.1 App Store Genius Screenshots http://post.ly/4UTP #
  • Wow. Searching the iTunes store in iTunes 9 is *VASTLY* improved. Nice job. #
  • Ha ha! πŸ™‚ RT @CAMURPHY: Oh good grief, look what a harmless search revealed: http://bit.ly/15N98Y
    (@jabancroft – that was you!) #
  • Some nice iPhone OS 3.1 changes: Voice Control works over Bluetooth, you can paste numbers in the Phone app, improved Exchange calendar sync #
  • @mattdavispdx *sigh* Posterous posted it 5 times to Facebook, too. Crap. Sorry about the spam. They’ve really got to fix that. in reply to mattdavispdx #
  • @posterous I desperately need your help fixing the duplicate posts problem. I’ve sent mail to help@posterous.com. How can I help you fix it? #
  • @verso iTunes 9 made the green orb do a true maximize (that switch to the mini player always bugged me). Mini toggle is now Cmd+Shift+M in reply to verso #
  • @colligan Podcast categories have been moved the the arrow dropdown next to the word “Podcasts” in the new iTunes store header bar. in reply to colligan #
  • What’s a good stereo Bluetooth headset for iPhone use? More music than phone. Last I looked, none were very good. Last I used was a Moto S9. #
  • Forgot I had a pair of MOTOROKR S9s sitting around. But the soft ear cushions are lost. Anyone have some they’d be willing to part with? #
  • Pfft. Voice Control does NOT seem to work over Bluetooth in iPhone OS 3.1. And the track controls on the MOTOROKR S9 don’t work, either. πŸ™ #

Site’s Messed Up. Working On It.

If you’re viewing this on the web, you can probably see that things are different. I upgraded WordPress, which broke my theme, K2, so I upgraded that, and I broke all of my customizations. The whole thing is getting pretty rickety and fragile, and I’ve been wanting a clean start, so I’m going to work on that, and just leave a little bit of a mess until then. If you’re subscribed and reading via the feed, then there’s nothing to worry about.

  • Full lineup of @isntv live shows today: Parallel Programming Talk, Teach Parallel, and Visualize This! http://j.mp/isntv #
  • Flickr now has an official iPhone app. Played with it a bit, and it’s VERY slick. Seems to do everything except posting to Twitter. Nice. #
  • Oh, bummer. We had an @isntv guest fall through, and had to cancel Teach Parallel today. πŸ™ #
  • @rachelbancroft Wait, what? Alec Baldwin narrates Thomas the Tank Engine? I’ve GOT to see that. πŸ™‚ in reply to rachelbancroft #

  • Have an iPhone? Like Scrabble? Get “Words With Friends”, and start a game with me (handle is the same there). I need the practice! πŸ™‚ #
  • There are about 6 police cars running around my neighborhood with sirens blaring (Aloha/Beaverton). Anyone know what’s up? #
  • Hearing several police sirens running all over the place going on 15 minutes now. Chase? Rampage? Anyone got a scanner? #beaverton #
  • How come none of the local news stations/sites have anything up about this police action? KGW? KATU? Oregonlive? Sirens for 30 minutes now. #
  • @dswiese Yeah, I tried the OregonLive police scanner page. It wants to install RealOne Player. Not gonna happen. πŸ™‚ in reply to dswiese #
  • I guess my expectations are just too high. Hyperlocal real time web FAIL tonight. πŸ™ #
  • @WayneGarciaKPTV It started around SW 198th and Kinnaman, sounds like they’ve moved off to the south, to Farmington and beyond. in reply to WayneGarciaKPTV #
  • @WayneGarciaKPTV 45 minutes of sirens running all over the area for a theft from a vehicle? Wow. Some car thief. Thanks for checking, though in reply to WayneGarciaKPTV #
  • @jabancroft Justin says theft from a vehicle.. scene is clearing now. (via @WayneGarciaKPTV) (the police craziness in Aloha/Beaverton) #

Too Many Posting Options?

First of all, my apologies to those who see this twice via my feed. Posterous is still posting duplicates to my blog, and I don’t know why.

A few posts ago, I wrote about how the combination of Posterous and fast two thumb iPhone typing was leading me to post more. Then I proceeded to go a few days without posting anything.

I thought about it, and it wasn’t that there weren’t things I wanted to write about – our first eggs from Rachel’s hens, first day of 1st grade for Emma, some cool iPhone apps I’ve been playing with. I have plenty of stuff I want to post.

I realized that I feel a bit paralyzed by all the posting options that are available.

Posterous, Pixelpipe, Flickr, Friendfeed, etc. They all do roughly the same thing – let me post once to multiple destinations. The problem is that I haven’t worked out the perfect plumbing flow for all my Internet Tubes. I need to find a way to get my words, pictures, and videos to all the places I want them, without duplication, and as of now, there are still some gaps.

For example, Posterous would be perfect, except it doesn’t embed playable video on my blog (it turns into a download link), and doesn’t support blip.tv for sideloading video (I host most of my video there, with Flickr, Youtube, and the like as secondaries/backups).

I’m not complaining. I love noodling on this stuff to try and achieve the perfect flow. It’s not there yet, but it *SO* close! πŸ™‚

  • Our chickens finally started laying, and we’re tasing the eggs for the first time! #
  • Side by side taste test with store bought eggs: http://twitpic.com/gl6hs #
  • I heart all of you fellow snarky pedants. We’re *tasting* the eggs, not *tasing* them. πŸ™‚ #
  • I wonder if we tase the chickens (bro), will they lay more eggs? πŸ˜‰ #
  • Objectively, I can’t really tell the difference between the (fried) store bought eggs an the ones from our chickens. But they are better. πŸ™‚ #
  • Store eggs are cheaper. If you amortize what we’ve spent on chicken infrastructure, I figure these eggs cost about $100 a pop. πŸ™‚ #
  • @jandroid The per-egg cost will go down, but this was never about cheap eggs. They’re pets, and they make @rachelbancroft happy. #worthit πŸ™‚ in reply to jandroid #
  • Foursquare seems to be working again. I couldn’t check in for a day and a half. #
