  • Apparently a large chunk of Brazil is off the grid. Itaipu hydro plant is down. Yikes. Cuiden-se, amigos Brasileiros! 🙁 #
  • Is Itaipu still offline? Largest hydro plant in the world. 9 Brazilian states and 10s millions w/o power. I used to live hours from there. #
  • Surprised Wikipedia doesn't have anything yet on the Itaipu power outage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Itaipu #
  • Oh, cool! @usina_itaipu is the dam's official Twitter acct. It's in Portugeese, though (mine's rusty, but workable). #
  • Apparently the failure wasn't at Itaipu, but with the transmission system. The dam is generating lots of power, but can't send it anywhere. #
  • Transmission to the Paraguay side was quickly restored, but is still down for the majority of their capacity in Brazil #
  • @digiphile I lived in Paraná for two years about a decade ago. Guarapuava, Curitiba, and Paranaguá. 🙂 Never made it to Foz do Iguaçu. in reply to digiphile #
  • @digiphile And Three Gorges is a larger dam, but Itaipu generates more power, according to Wikipedia. in reply to digiphile #
  • Junaio, a "social augmented reality" iPhone app that I've been waiting for, has hit the app store. It's free. Downloading now. #
  • @scottjedwards Oh, I'm definitely going someday. 🙂 I long to go back and visit Paraná. Dream about it. Maybe for my 2nd sabbatical. 😉 in reply to scottjedwards #
  • @rklau Junaio let's you create and modify geotagged "scenes" – pics with 3D objects: http://twitpic.com/p2yby http://twitpic.com/p2ybt in reply to rklau #
