Netflix Instant Streaming for PS3 Has Arrived

Just got the disc tonight, haven’t actually tried it out yet. It’s kind if lame that you have to insert the disc every time you want to stream something – as I understand it, it’s because they’re doing the streaming as a BD Live feature, which requires a Blu-Ray disc. A native Playstation 3 software app is supposed to be coming soon. Looking forward to that.

I’ll try it out, and let you know how it works. I can’t wait to teach my kids how to use this. We’ve been Netflix subscribers for years, but I only recently discovered the Watch Instantly streaming library. There are a *LOT* more movies and TV shows that I’d want to watch than I thought I’d find. Not a bad deal at all.

Now, if they’d just launch a Watch Instantly iPhone app… 😉

  1. That’s weird, I thought the disc was an installer for a software update to enable the Netflix streaming. Lame that you have to keep using it (for now) to stream anything. We canceled our Netflix account because we hadn’t been watching anything for months, but I probably just should’ve downgraded to one disc a month. Considering resubscribing, especially now that streaming can be done on PS3 and TiVo HD.

  2. Yeah, I wish it was an installer, too. That’s supposed to be coming by the end of the year, from what I’ve read.

We’ve gone months at a time without using out Netflix account, but we’ve been using it a lot more, especially since we upgraded to Blu-Ray, and I discovered the Watch Instantly stuff.

I’m especially excited to show my kids, so they can stop watching the same 4 or 5 movies over and over again. We have more, but they have their favorites. I can’t wait to watch some of the classics with them – Neverending Story, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, etc.

For us, it’s definitely worth the $10 a month. :-)
